Wychwood Festival update – the Buzzcocks are coming!

The Wychwood 2017 latest line-up news just keeps on coming…..

As expected of the Wychwood Festival  – this 2017 version looks like being ‘very special’ indeed, with over 100 bands on the four stages. There’s also a Kids Literature Festival, Comedy Shows, a Real Ale Festival some great food on offer….. and some superb camping against a stunning countryside backdrop.

This hugely popular, fast-growing Festival runs from June 2nd -4th at the legendary Cheltenham Racecourse – home of the world famous Cheltenham Gold Cup, which runs in the next few days by the way!

A short while ago came the first news of planned line-up – there was the Saturday head-liner ‘coup’ Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and then The Levellers were lined for the Sunday.

The Buzzcocks too!!!

Now there’s more! Following these two big name announcements comes confirmation from organisers, Tribe Festivals, that The Buzzcocks, one of the most influential punks bands in the world,  now make the Main Stage on ‘Festival Friday’.

Another name set for the Saturday main stage will be “Northern Funk” duo, Smoove and Turrell, who offer, say organisers,….. ‘a contemporary sound fusing a variety of musical genres including funk, Northern soul, hip-hop and even jazz’. On Sunday, it’s one of the ‘one and only’ alternative rockers, Jesus Jones.

It’ll also be the hilarious, Professor Elemental in the Big Top – apparently performing ‘a neo-Victorian blend of Hip-Hop and Comedy’ and also scheduled are psychedelic popsters, Let’s Eat Grandma on the Friday and the incredibly talented Zak Abel, IDER and Girli and the psychedelic sounds of Flamingods.

Kids Lit Fest

Aside from the music ..music .. music…. comes news too of the many authors and illustrators, with Katie Ashworth, taking part in the Wychwood Festival Kids Literature Festival, in association with Waterstones. The ‘cast’ includes Steve Cole reading from his latest Young Bond book, Tamsyn Murray with her Tanglewood Series, Jo Cotterill with Electrigirl and the Invisible thieves.

Pet Detectors

Gareth P Jones will also be there, reading from his Pet Detectors series, John Dougherty will offer ‘Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face’ and Chris Edge with his book and workshop on How to be a Young Writer. Caryl Hart is sure to be a hit with Knock, Knock Dinosaur, then there’s Duncan Beedie with Lumberjack’s Beard and a number of workshops from artist and illustrator, Gemma Hastilow.

Wychwood FM

The Festival will operate its own radio station. Wychwood 87.7 FM is a joint project by student station, Tone Radio and The University of Gloucestershire.  It will be on air throughout the festival weekend offering up to date festival information and news coverage of all the acts and exclusive ‘live’ performances.  All of the presenters are student volunteers, who have been involved with Tone Radio alongside their university studies.
