Festival ‘Food for Thought’ for 2017

‘Taste of the West…. and 2017’

Being West – as well as London-based – and with a good deal of contacts and, of course, a keen interest in Festivals and Events UK-wide linked to Food and Drink – (I mean who wouldn’t be interested?) – the Quotrofest team has been checking up of late on the very excellent   ‘Taste of the West’ plans for 2017.

Taste of the West, which has been celebrating its 25th anniversary this past year is an impressively motivated and well-connected operation.

Founded in 1991, ‘Taste’ has grown to become the UK’s largest independent regional food group, with over 1,000 members, all passionate about the provenance and quality of the products they make, serve or sell.

promotes and supports

‘Taste of the West’ promotes and supports food and drink from Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire. Its membership includes food and drink producers, hospitality establishments, specialist retailers and wholesalers.

The 2017 ‘happenings’

We have been checking online at www.tasteofthewest.co.uk and have collected some key information as to Event happenings for the year ahead in 2017.

This is ‘The Taste of the West’ 2017 diary is shaping up for sure:-

The Source/Taste of the West Trade Show 8-9 February, Westpoint, Exeter

Expowest Cornwall 7-9 March, Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge

The Hotel, Catering & Retail Show 14-15 March, Bournemouth International Centre

The Food & Drink Trade Show 3-4 May, Three Counties Showground, Malvern

Speciality & Fine Food Fair 3-5 September 2017, Olympia, London

HRH support

Now that seems an impressive Event programme for sure, so no wonder His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has extended his patronage of ‘Taste of the West’  He  has given his support for the West Country’s food and drink sector for a further 5 years, until July 2020. Excellent news for ‘Taste’!

John Sheaves, Chief Executive of ‘Taste of the West’ remains delighted with the progress and impact ‘Taste’ has achieved over the years. “For a quarter of a century now, we have been promoting quality, provenance and integrity in our food products and hospitality services in the South West.

Our 25th anniversary has come at an important time for us as we embark on a major expansion of our activities, so that our regional ‘foodie’ culture can reach out to new markets, which will firmly put this region even more on the national and international food and drink map.

UK-wide ‘taste’

We pondered here at QuotroFest if in view of the excellent Taste of the West model there will be in the future other ‘Taste’ type concept organisations forming up -elsewhere in the UK.

The model seems sound. It is commercial and highly popular with the public at large and is certainly helping businesses working in Food and Drink in the West to flourish and survive. Surely ‘Taste’ elsewhere in the UK would seem a ‘goer’ – perhaps there are plans!

There are of course many other great Food Festivals and ‘foody’ Events across the UK each year. We are QuotroFest have been in touch with The Great British Food Festival team recently and we are aware that no sooner had their 2016 Show ‘swansong’ at Arley Hall ended in September, than the 2017 programme was being formulated – more here on that soon ….!!

Our team particuarly likes working our Comms and Merchandising biz at Food (and Drink!!) Festivals – I wonder why that is? No… no… it really is that we just love the work – that gorgeous food and drink has nothing to do with it – and if you believe that …….
